Mathilde Piard
Mathilde, a native of France now living in Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides.
Her creations use ropes and plant dyeing to come up with items that will last for years due to their utility, quality, timeless design and singularity.
Home is the heart for Mathilde, combining volume, texture, shape, colours collected, gathered and designed. The aesthetic is as important as the utility of any object. When creating a design, she starts with the shape, imagining what it's to be used for, but always the final prototype considers both the aesthetic and the utility.
Every basket made is unique, a nest, a cocoon, a safe and comforting container.
